The October 1, 2026 AirgapAI Chat release adds dataset search you control, model downloads that can resume, long-document questions on laptops without a graphics card, clear model status with automatic recovery, and cleaner chats, exports and Settings. AirgapAI Chat answers questions from your documents and datasets using an AI model that runs on your own computer.
Regulated teams and security-minded buyers get a local AI assistant that answers from their own documents, with the chat model and dataset search running on the computer in front of them. Dataset search stays off until someone turns it on, so people decide when their documents are searched. Clear model status, automatic recovery and plain Windows security messages give IT a clear starting point when the local model stops or is blocked. Model downloads can continue after a dropped connection, and long-document questions can run on laptops without a graphics card.

Get a sample dataset to try as soon as setup finishes. Choose Enable search during first-run setup and the included sample dataset is linked to its search model, and the search step waits for that download to finish. If the download fails you see a clear message with the option to cancel or retry. Turn on Use in chat when you want answers from the dataset.
Decide when your documents are searched. Dataset search is off until you turn it on, and your choice is remembered after a restart. Datasets read On or Off with Use in chat and Stop using in chat actions, and answers are labeled Answered from dataset or Using your document.
A resumed download is still checked in full before the model is installed. If your connection drops during a large model download, AirgapAI Chat can continue from where it stopped, and Cancel works at any point. This helps on slow, shared or unreliable networks.
Ask about several attached documents on a laptop without a graphics card. The conversation stays active while the model works, so the answer arrives instead of ending in an error. Responses may take longer on laptops without a graphics card.
Know what the local model is doing. Chat shows the model's real status and reloads it once automatically if it stops. If it stops again, a clear card offers a Reload model button.
Employees are not left guessing when Windows security blocks the local AI engine. When Smart App Control or an IT application-control policy refuses to run it, Chat explains what happened and points to the signed installer or to IT.
Know how long a dataset job will take. Large document jobs adjust to your computer's memory, and Basic Chunking jobs show an estimated time. View Jobs lists jobs by dataset with hours, minutes and seconds.
Keep conversations easy to find. Renaming or starring a chat updates it in place, and a failed rename shows a message on the row. Search Chats narrows the list, and Enter opens the highlighted result. A quick-start chip creates a chat only when you send a message.
Share the finished answer without the reasoning behind it. The Thought Process view shows the model's reasoning as formatted text. Copy, Copy entire chat and exports to common document and spreadsheet formats contain only the answer. Thinking is on by default, and your choice is saved.
Work without a mouse. Sidebar rows, the send and attach buttons, the persona panel, source references and chat search can be used from the keyboard. Focus is clearly visible, including in Windows high-contrast mode.
Find your way around Settings and help faster. Model Management opens on the Chat Model, with the other model roles one click away, and the temperature and penalty sliders show real values. Education Center articles state plainly that the app does not search the internet. New and changed text is available in 13 language options.
