Super Intelligence (SI) Adoption

# Who Is Adopting Super Intelligence (SI)? An AI and SI Adoption Tracker

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence (AI), became U.S. federal policy on
September 29, 2026, when [Executive Order 14434](https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-20321.pdf) told executive
agencies to use the new term in place of “AI.” Within two weeks the name moved into the
market: on October 4, SpaceX [pledged to rename](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/05/musk-says-he-will-rename-spacexai-to-spacexsi) its SpaceXAI unit
(formerly xAI) to SpaceXSI; on October 9, Salesforce
[renamed its own agent platform](https://www.gurufocus.com/news/9118471/salesforce-rebrands-ai-unit-to-siforce-following-presidential-directive-crm) to SIForce; and Iternal adopted the
term on iternal.ai. OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename, according to reporting on
Politico’s “Decoded” podcast ([CNN](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html)), and
[Anadolu](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/trump-s-push-for-superintelligence-finds-no-support-from-ai-makers/4067505) reported that OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic and Google each indicated the
term “artificial intelligence” is unlikely to be phased out.

Who is adopting Super Intelligence so far? Below: which companies are renaming AI to SI, who is holding
on to “AI,” and how the federal government’s own rollout is going.

## Who Has Adopted “Super Intelligence”

Three entries anchor the adoption side of the ledger so far: one federal mandate, one completed company
rename and one pledged rename, all inside a two-week window.

| Entity | What changed | Date | Scope | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| U.S. federal executive agencies | Executive Order 14434 directs the executive branch to use “Super Intelligence” and
“SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official
correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, and policy documents, “to the
maximum extent permitted by law.” | Signed Sept. 29, 2026 | Mandatory within the executive branch; no obligation on private companies, states, or prior
documents | [Federal Register, FR Doc. 2026-20321](https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-20321.pdf) |
| Salesforce | Renamed its AIForce agent platform to SIForce. CEO Marc Benioff: “The era of Super
Intelligence is here. AIForce is officially SIForce.” | Announced Oct. 9, 2026 | One company’s own product branding | [Yahoo Tech / Business Insider](https://tech.yahoo.com/ai/articles/trumps-ai-rebrand-catching-elon-040201769.html), [GuruFocus](https://www.gurufocus.com/news/9118471/salesforce-rebrands-ai-unit-to-siforce-following-presidential-directive-crm) |
| SpaceX (Elon Musk) | Musk said on X he would rename SpaceX’s “SpaceXAI” unit to
“SpaceXSI”: “Yes, we will make that change.”
Musk gave no timeline; as of October 11, 2026, the change had not yet occurred
(Source: [CNN (via Yahoo News)](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html)). | Pledged Oct. 4, 2026 | One internal division’s name | [The Star](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/05/musk-says-he-will-rename-spacexai-to-spacexsi), [CNN (via Yahoo News)](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html) |

Both company moves have their own history. Salesforce moved within 24 days of unveiling AIforce at
Dreamforce on Sept. 15 (Source: [Yahoo Tech / Business Insider](https://tech.yahoo.com/ai/articles/trumps-ai-rebrand-catching-elon-040201769.html)), where Benioff
described it as an interface combining model intelligence with the company’s own business context.
SpaceX’s unit began as xAI; after SpaceX acquired it, the unit was renamed “SpaceXAI”
earlier in 2026, and it has now been pledged to become “SpaceXSI”
(Source: [Not a Tesla App, Oct. 5, 2026](https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/4770/musk-spacexai-will-be-renamed-spacexsi-dropping-ai)).

Two of these three rows are market choices — Salesforce’s completed rename and
SpaceX’s pledged one — made voluntarily, since the order places no obligation on private
companies; the federal row is government policy. The order defines “Super Intelligence” and
“SI” by the existing statutory AI definition at 15 U.S.C. §9401(3)
(Source: [Federal Register, FR Doc. 2026-20321, Sec. 3(a)](https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-20321.pdf)), so the name covers
the capability organizations already use today, which is distinct from the theoretical artificial
superintelligence (ASI) threshold — see
[SI vs. AGI vs. ASI: what’s the difference?](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/ai-vs-agi-vs-asi). For
the order’s full scope and what it does and does not require, see

## Not Renaming: Who Is Holding On to “AI”

Most of the industry, one state government, and most of the press covering the story have kept
“AI” so far.

| Entity | Stance | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| OpenAI | OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename, according to reporting on Politico’s
“Decoded” podcast. | [CNN (via Yahoo News)](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html) |
| OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic and Google | Anadolu reported that OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic and Google each indicated “artificial
intelligence” is unlikely to be phased out as a term; none has renamed a shipping
product. | [Anadolu](https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/trump-s-push-for-superintelligence-finds-no-support-from-ai-makers/4067505) |
| California state government | Executive Order N-10-26, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom one day after the federal order, keeps
“Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” as the terms state agencies use. | [Digital Policy Alert](https://digitalpolicyalert.org/event/44195-california-governor-signed-executive-order-to-retain-the-term-artificial-intelligence-in-state-agencies-n-10-26) |
| Press coverage of the order itself | Outlets reporting on Executive Order 14434 — including Axios and TheNextWeb, among
others — continue to lead their own coverage with “AI”/“artificial
intelligence,” using “Super Intelligence”/“SI” only when describing
the administration’s preferred term. | [Axios](https://axios.com/2026/10/08/trump-ai-super-intelligence-white-house), [TheNextWeb](https://thenextweb.com/news/trump-super-intelligence-executive-order-signed) |

Anthropic, Google, and xAI sit in an additional, more public spot: alongside Meta, OpenAI, and NVIDIA,
their leaders signed a separate, voluntary “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” on the
same day the order was signed. Per CIO.com’s direct reading of that document, its own operative
text commits signatories to safety reviews of “frontier models” — not to using the term
“Super Intelligence” in their own products (Source: [CIO.com](https://www.cio.com/article/4228944/trumps-answer-to-ais-image-problem-industry-self-regulation-and-a-new-name.html)). The
Accord’s signatory list credits Musk to “xAI” — the name the unit carried before
SpaceX’s own rebrand: SpaceX renamed it SpaceXAI earlier in 2026, and Musk said on October 4, five
days after signing the Accord, that it would become SpaceXSI next, the move tracked in the adoption table
above. Microsoft and Amazon, both signatories to the 2023 voluntary White House AI safety commitments, did
not sign this Accord.

ThePrint’s reading on September 23, 2026, the day after the President’s UN General Assembly
remarks and before the order was signed: there was “little indication that the technology industry is
preparing to abandon the term AI” (Source: [ThePrint, Sept. 23, 2026](https://theprint.in/theprint-essential/trump-says-ai-is-now-super-intelligence-why-the-new-name-matters/3050731/)). Iternal sees that
as the normal starting point for a new category name, not a reason to hold back: within two weeks of the
order, the federal executive branch, Salesforce and SpaceX moved, and Iternal moved with them.

## The Rollout Gap Inside the Federal Government

Even the agencies the order binds have not fully caught up with it. The White House updated AI.gov to
display “SI.gov” branding, but the SI.gov address itself returns an error page when visited
directly (Source: [Axios](https://axios.com/2026/10/08/trump-ai-super-intelligence-white-house)). The Office of Science and Technology Policy — led by
the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, whom Sec. 3(b) tasks with proposing
legislative language for a Federal definition of “Super Intelligence” — was still using “artificial intelligence” on its own site as of early
October reporting, and NIST said it “is working to update its communications to incorporate the
term” — in progress, not complete (Source: [Wiley Rein](https://www.wiley.law/alert-Executive-Order-Rebrands-AI-as-Super-Intelligence-and-Signals-Potential-Federal-Legislative-Changes)).

One concrete case did land: NIST’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation now appears on the
agency’s own site as the Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence
(CAISSI) (Source: [nist.gov/caisi](https://www.nist.gov/caisi)). No formal rename announcement from NIST or the
Commerce Department accompanied the change; broader NIST communications are still catching up. The
Department of Justice and the State Department have moved faster. On October 6, 2026, Acting Deputy
Attorney General Trent McCotter sent DOJ staff a memo instructing them to use “Super
Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “AI,” extending to court filings
“when appropriate”
(Source: [Reuters via The Star](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/07/us-justice-dept-tells-staff-to-call-ai-039super-intelligence039-under-trump-order) and [Bloomberg Law](https://news.bloombergtax.com/us-law-week/doj-staff-told-to-refer-to-ai-as-super-intelligence-in-court)).
The State Department moved before the order existed: on September 22, 2026, after the
President’s remarks at the UN General Assembly, its Bureau of International Organization Affairs
instructed staff to use the new term in “all remarks, positions and press elements moving
forward” (Source: [AP via The Hill](https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6109549-diplomats-ai-super-intelligence/amp/)). That split — two agencies moving quickly, two
others still catching up — shows the order’s rollout moving at different speeds across
agencies.

A 60-day legislative clock and a sprawling executive branch make an uneven rollout the expected shape of
a mandate this new, not evidence the order is being ignored.

## Public Opinion Snapshot

In YouGov’s September 28, 2026 poll of 21,449 U.S. adults (Source: [YouGov](https://yougov.com/en-us/daily-results/20260928-5a780-1)),
“artificial intelligence” drew 53% as the better name, “super intelligence” 9%,
no preference 23% and not sure 15%. “Artificial intelligence” is still the majority answer,
not a close call — but a combined 47% did not choose it. Iternal reads that 47% as the opening for
the clearer name, not a reason to wait: it is why Iternal writes “formerly called AI” while
leading with Super Intelligence now, rather than waiting for the new name to win a majority first.

## What to Watch Next

**The legislative-definition deadline, around Nov. 28, 2026.** Executive Order 14434
gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days from the Sept. 29 signing
to propose legislative language for a formal federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and
“SI” under [Sec. 3(b) of the order](https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-20321.pdf). That proposal could,
for the first time, modify or expand the term beyond today’s statutory AI definition — it
has not done so yet.

**The next movers.** As of October 11, 2026, the adoption side of the ledger is the
federal executive branch, Salesforce’s completed rename and SpaceX’s pledged one. The next
companies to watch are enterprise technology suppliers to federal agencies: under Executive Order 14434
Sec. 2(a), those agencies now use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official
correspondence and public communications, while Sec. 2(b) leaves existing contracts unchanged and
the order places no obligation on suppliers themselves.

**A related but separate bill.** The Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, announced
Sept. 3, 2026 by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar, targets “artificial
superintelligence,” which the sponsors’ summary defines as a system that “exhibits or
can easily be modified to exhibit capabilities that match or exceed human cognitive performance... across
a broad range of domains” (Source: [Sanders.senate.gov release summary](https://www.sanders.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/Ban-Artificial-Superintelligence-Act-Release-Summary.pdf))
— a different, higher bar than the statutory AI definition the executive order uses for SI
(Sec. 3(a)).
See [SI vs. AGI vs. ASI: what's the difference?](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/ai-vs-agi-vs-asi) for
how that bill’s vocabulary differs from today’s SI rename.

## The Name Is Catching Up to the Capability

In under two weeks the name has moved from one executive order into the market: the federal executive
branch adopted it, Salesforce completed a rename, SpaceX pledged one, and Iternal adopted it on
iternal.ai. The underlying capability adoption runs further ahead. By the second quarter of 2026, 39.2% of
employed U.S. adults were using generative AI for work in the past week, up from 28.2% in the third
quarter of 2024 (Source: [FRED Blog, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis](https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2026/08/does-generative-ai-save-time-at-work/)), and
McKinsey’s 2026 survey of 1,719 participants across 97 nations found 80% saying AI improved their
individual productivity (Source: [McKinsey & Company](https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/the-state-of-ai)). Iternal backs
Super Intelligence as the name that matches those results, not a term still waiting on them. For more

FAQ

## FAQ: Super Intelligence (SI) Adoption

Yes. On October 9, 2026, Salesforce renamed its AIForce agent platform to SIForce; CEO Marc Benioff posted, “The era of Super Intelligence is here. AIForce is officially SIForce.” The announcement did not say whether the rename brings any change to features, availability or pricing.

SpaceX has announced the intent but had not completed a formal rename as of October 11, 2026. On October 4, 2026, Elon Musk said on X he would rename SpaceX’s “SpaceXAI” unit to “SpaceXSI” (“Yes, we will make that change”), with no stated timeline; as of October 11, 2026, the change had not yet occurred.

No. OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename, according to reporting on Politico’s “Decoded” podcast.

No. California’s Executive Order N-10-26, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on September 30, 2026 (one day after the federal order), directs its own agencies to continue using “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI.”

As of October 11, 2026, two named companies have made a public branding move: Salesforce (completed) and SpaceX (announced, not yet finished). Iternal has also adopted the term on iternal.ai. Anadolu reported that OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic, and Google each indicated “artificial intelligence” is unlikely to be phased out as a term; none has renamed a shipping product.
