Super Intelligence (SI) — Theme Directory
# AI & Super Intelligence (SI) by Theme

Twelve roles and cross-cutting topics — governance, security, agentic deployment, and the Chief AI
Officer among them — each with its own answer to what changes under EO 14434, and what doesn’t.

Start Here
Federal agencies now call it **Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence
(AI)**. A CISO who hears that doesn’t need an industry breakdown. They need to know what
happens to the word “AI” sitting inside a third-party security questionnaire. A compliance
officer needs the policy-language answer. An enterprise architect needs the naming-drift answer. None
of those questions are about what sector you sell into.

**Super Intelligence (SI) is the name U.S. federal executive agencies now use for AI — and
what it means for you depends less on your industry than on the role you hold.** Twelve roles
and topics, grouped into three clusters below, each with its own specific guidance.

## The One Fact Every Theme Below Shares

Signed September 29, 2026, Executive Order 14434 tells federal departments and agencies — not
states, not private companies — to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in
place of “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy
documents and other non-statutory documents, “to the maximum extent permitted by
law” (Source: [the Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)).
Because several of those agencies are themselves regulators — the FDA, HHS, GSA’s FedRAMP
program, and DoD’s CMMC program among them — the swap reaches their future guidance too,
though Section 2(b) carves out anything they already issued: old regulations, contracts, and grants
keep their original wording. California directs its own agencies to continue using “Artificial
Intelligence” and “AI” (Source: [State of California, Executive Order N-10-26, signed September 30, 2026](https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/SIGNED_EO-N-10-26_9.30.26.pdf)),
so the federal name governs federal executive agencies rather than every government. That is why this directory
sorts by role and cross-cutting topic rather than by industry: a CISO, a compliance officer, and an
enterprise architect each face a narrow governance or process question — a line in a
questionnaire, a clause in a policy, a label on an architecture diagram — and none of them is
being handed a rewritten rulebook.

The order’s 60-day clock, landing around November 28, 2026, marks when the Assistant to the
President for Science and Technology owes the President *draft statutory wording* for the new
term — it is not a completion date for any agency, company, or internal team. A Wiley Rein LLP
client alert called the shift “likely to be
procedural and administrative rather than substantive” (Source: [Wiley Rein LLP](https://www.wiley.law/alert-Executive-Order-Rebrands-AI-as-Super-Intelligence-and-Signals-Potential-Federal-Legislative-Changes)),
and a Cloud Security Alliance research note reached the same conclusion from the security side: the
order “creates no new legal category and does not alter existing regulations, contracts, or
grants” (Source: [a Cloud Security Alliance research note](https://labs.cloudsecurityalliance.org/research/csa-research-note-eo14434-super-intelligence-caissi-20261007/)).

Two findings recur across the cards below. Nothing in the order directs NIST to reissue its AI Risk
Management Framework under an “SI” name, and the same CSA note recommends a governance
program “not create a separate risk tier called
‘SI’” ([CSA](https://labs.cloudsecurityalliance.org/research/csa-research-note-eo14434-super-intelligence-caissi-20261007/)). And where an institution’s name has
changed, its standard often hasn’t: NIST’s center now reads “Center for Advancing
Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence (CAISSI)” and already says “the security of
SI systems,” while its own Research Blog and News sections underneath still say
“AI” (Source: [nist.gov](https://www.nist.gov/caissi)).

## Pick Your Role or Topic

“Theme” here means a role you hold (CISO, IT leader, compliance officer, enterprise
architect, Chief AI Officer) or a cross-cutting topic you own (governance, agentic AI, private/on-prem
deployment, air-gapped environments, knowledge management, edge computing, cost and ROI). Each guide
ends with the matching Iternal service page.

Governance, Risk & Compliance
Four functions that own the paperwork AI already touches — policy, third-party risk, audit, and architecture — each facing its own specific SI-wording question, not a shared one.

### Governance

## How This Differs From the Guides Hub

[Guides](https://iternal.ai/guides) is organized by task — Deploy & Run AI, Prompt Engineering,
Strategy & Knowledge, and Data & RAG — and covers how to do the work: deploying a private
LLM, writing a better prompt, sizing hardware. This directory is organized by role and topic instead,
and covers only what the AI-to-SI name change affects for that role or topic. The two overlap in
subject matter here and there — a private-LLM deployment guide and this hub’s Private &
On-Premises theme both touch on-prem AI, for instance — but they answer different questions. Want
to deploy a private LLM or write a better prompt? Go to [Guides](https://iternal.ai/guides). Want to know what
EO 14434 changes for your role? Stay here.

FAQ

## FAQ: Super Intelligence (SI) by Theme

Super Intelligence (SI) is the name federal agencies now use, under Executive Order 14434, for the technology formerly called AI. For the full definition, read the [Super Intelligence hub](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence). For this directory, the short version is that what the name means for your work depends on your role, not your industry — a CISO’s third-party security questionnaire and a compliance officer’s policy template each have their own answer below, and neither answer is “rewrite your regulations.”

No. [Guides](https://iternal.ai/guides) is organized by task — Deploy & Run AI, Prompt Engineering, Strategy & Knowledge, and Data & RAG — and covers how to do the work. This directory is organized by role and topic and covers only what the AI-to-SI name change affects.

Three groupings and twelve themes: Governance, Risk & Compliance (governance, CISOs & security, compliance officers, enterprise architects), Deployment & Architecture (agentic AI, private/on-premises AI, air-gapped/classified, edge computing), and Operations & Leadership (IT leaders, knowledge management, implementation cost & ROI, Chief AI Officer leadership).

No. “Agentic SI” is agentic AI under the federal rename — the same autonomous-agent systems, renamed, not a leap toward artificial general intelligence (AGI) or artificial superintelligence (ASI). See the [AI vs. AGI vs. ASI explainer](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/ai-vs-agi-vs-asi) for the distinction.

No. Iternal keeps the Chief AI Officer name, and we found no evidence of a “Chief SI Officer” title trend. Chief/C-suite AI titles alone grew 428% between Q2 2022 and Q2 2024, from 81 to 428, per [a ZoomInfo report](https://www.silicon.co.uk/press-release/artificial-intelligence-job-titles-have-tripled-since-2022-according-to-a-new-report-from-zoominfo). See the [CAIO leadership theme page](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/chief-ai-officer-leadership) for the full case.

As new theme pages ship, and after key dates on the order’s own timeline — including the November 28, 2026 deadline for a proposed legislative SI/AI definition — whichever role or topic listed here is affected first.

## Iternal Backs the Name — These Roles Show Why

The roles in this directory give Iternal its plainest reason to back the name Super Intelligence: they
run on written work — policies, risk memos, audit findings, architecture decision records —
and written work has some of the clearest measured gains. In a preregistered *Science* experiment, 453
college-educated professionals took on writing tasks drawn from their own occupations; the half given
ChatGPT cut the average time taken by 40% and raised output quality by
18% (Source: [Noy & Zhang, Science, July 14, 2023](https://doi.org/10.1126/science.adh2586)). Gains measured on the job
against a control group are results, not a simulation of results, and they are why Iternal uses Super
Intelligence (SI) for the governance, security, and operations functions mapped above. Find your role or
topic above for the specific answer, then bring the real work — a governance program, a security
review, a deployment plan — to Iternal.
