AI & Super Intelligence (SI) — Industry Directory
# AI and Super Intelligence (SI) by Industry

Thirteen industries, each with its own regulator, its own procurement language, and its own answer to
what the AI-to-SI rename actually changes.

Start Here
**Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence (AI),** is the term
U.S. federal agencies began using under Executive Order 14434. If that’s your responsibility
within one specific regulated industry, you don’t need the general explainer — you need the
version that names your regulator and your procurement language, and shows how your existing contracts
and filings sit alongside the clearer federal name. Section 2(b) of the order leaves them as written.

**Super Intelligence (SI) is Executive Order 14434’s federal name for AI — and each
regulated industry meets it through a different regulator.** This directory is the map: thirteen
industries, each linked to its own regulator-specific guidance, grouped below so you can go straight to
yours.

## The One Fact Every Industry Below Shares

Executive Order 14434, signed September 29, 2026 and published in the Federal Register on
October 2, 2026 (FR Doc. 2026-20321, 91 FR 63129–63130), directs U.S. federal executive agencies
to use “Super Intelligence” or “SI” in place of “AI” in their own
communications, “to the maximum extent permitted by law.” (Source: [the Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence))
Section 2(b) explicitly leaves “previously issued regulations, Presidential actions, contracts,
grants, or other historical documents” untouched (verbatim in [the order text](https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-20321.pdf))
— it does not require any state, self-regulatory body, or private company to change its own
terminology, and federal regulators’ existing published rules stay as written.

A few federal bodies have started using the new term internally. The Department of Justice’s
Acting Deputy Attorney General directed staff on October 6, 2026 to use “Super
Intelligence”/“SI” in place of “AI,” extending “to attorney
submissions to courts when appropriate” (Source: [Bloomberg Law](https://news.bloombergtax.com/us-law-week/doj-staff-told-to-refer-to-ai-as-super-intelligence-in-court)) — the U.S.
Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has already used “Super
Intelligence-Assisted” in a new sentencing press release (Source: [justice.gov](https://justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/north-carolina-man-sentenced-18-months-prison-super-intelligence-assisted-music)).
The State Department’s Bureau of International Organization Affairs moved first: on
September 22, 2026, the day of the President’s UN General Assembly remarks and a week before the
order was signed, it told staff to use “SI” in “all remarks, positions and press
elements moving forward” (Source: [AP via The Hill](https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6109549-diplomats-ai-super-intelligence/amp/)), and NIST’s own standards
center now presents itself as the “Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super
Intelligence (CAISSI)” (Source: [nist.gov](https://www.nist.gov/caisi)).

None of that has yet changed the published rules of the sector regulators below, though. As of October 11, 2026, HHS/OCR, FINRA, the
NAIC, the GSA, the FCC, and the California and Alabama state bars all still use “artificial
intelligence” or “AI” in their own published rules ([HHS/OCR](https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/ocr-dcl-section-1557-artificial-intelligence.pdf), [FINRA](https://www.finra.org/rules-guidance/key-topics/ai), [the NAIC](https://content.naic.org/sites/default/files/legal-adoption-map-ai-model-bulletin.pdf), [the GSA](https://www.pilieromazza.com/weekly-update-for-government-contractors-and-commercial-businesses-july-2-2026/), [the FCC](https://www.fcc.gov/node/264698), [the California](https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/new-technology/1824118/california-state-bar-issues-2026-ethics-guidance-on-ai-use-in-legal-practice) and [Alabama](https://natlawreview.com/article/alabama-state-bar-issues-ai-ethics-guidance-lawyers-key-questions-and-practical) state bars).
California directs its own agencies to continue using “Artificial Intelligence” and
“AI” (Source: [State of California, Executive Order N-10-26, signed September 30, 2026](https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/SIGNED_EO-N-10-26_9.30.26.pdf)).

The order’s 60-day clock (~November 28, 2026) is the deadline for the Assistant to the President
for Science and Technology to *propose legislative language* for a federal SI/AI definition
— not a deadline for any agency to finish a rename (Source: [a Cloud Security Alliance research note](https://labs.cloudsecurityalliance.org/research/csa-research-note-eo14434-super-intelligence-caissi-20261007/)).

FAQ

## FAQ: Super Intelligence (SI) by Industry

Super Intelligence (SI) is the term Executive Order 14434 directs U.S. federal agencies to use in place of “artificial intelligence (AI).” Iternal supports this name because it describes what today’s systems can already do, not how the technology was originally made. See the full explainer on the [Super Intelligence hub](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence).

Only in part. Executive Order 14434 directs federal executive departments and agencies — including HHS and the GSA — to use “SI” in new non-statutory communications, but Section 2(b) leaves previously issued regulations, contracts and grants unchanged, and the order does not bind FINRA, the NAIC or state bar associations. As of October 11, 2026, HHS, FINRA, the NAIC, the FCC, and two state bar associations all still use “AI” in their own published rules.

Four groupings and thirteen industries: Regulated Services (healthcare, financial services, insurance), Government & Defense (defense & aerospace, federal government, state & local government), Industrial & Infrastructure (manufacturing, energy & utilities, industrials, supply chain), and Consumer & Connectivity (retail, telecommunications, law firms).

Not today. Iternal’s product names — AirgapAI, AI Academy, the AI Strategy Blueprint, and the rest — stay unchanged, while Iternal already uses “Super Intelligence (SI)” in its own voice to describe the category those products serve. See the [rename guide](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/rename-ai-to-si-guide) for the mechanics other teams can use.

As new industry pages ship and whenever a regulator listed here changes its own terminology. The order’s own timeline also includes a November 28, 2026 deadline for a proposed legislative SI/AI definition, which may prompt further updates.

The [Super Intelligence adoption tracker](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/who-is-adopting-si) tracks companies and government bodies that have renamed something, or said they will not, updated as the picture changes.

## Why Iternal Uses the Name in Every Industry Above

Iternal supports Executive Order 14434’s name across the thirteen industries in this directory
because the measured results describe what SI does. In a randomized controlled trial of 105,934 women,
AI-supported mammography screening achieved 80.5% sensitivity versus 73.8% for standard double reading,
with identical specificity (98.5% both groups) (Source: [Gommers, Hernström, Josefsson et al., The Lancet 407(10527)](https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(25)02464-X)),
and by Q2 2026, 39.2% of employed U.S. adults used generative AI for work in the past week, saving 2.2%
of all work hours (Source: [FRED Blog, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis](https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2026/08/does-generative-ai-save-time-at-work/)).
That is why Iternal writes SI now, while each regulator above keeps its own published wording.
