# What Is Super Intelligence (SI)?
The New Name for AI

Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence (AI), is the name President Trump’s
Executive Order 14434 gives this technology — and Iternal supports it. The results are measured, the
performance clears the human bar, and “Super Intelligence” finally says what the technology
does.

Is AI now called SI?

**The short version:** Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence
(AI), is the term President Trump directed U.S. federal agencies to start using on September 29, 2026
under Executive Order 14434 (Source: [Federal Register, FR Doc. 2026-20321](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)) — and
Iternal supports it. It is not a new technology, but it is finally the right name for the one we have.

**Who is moving first:** Salesforce renamed its agent platform from AIForce to SIForce
on October 9, 2026 (Source: [Marc Benioff via X, aggregated by Digg, Oct. 9, 2026](https://digg.com/tech/vuptndhq)), and
Elon Musk pledged days earlier that SpaceXAI would become
SpaceXSI (Source: [The Star](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/05/musk-says-he-will-rename-spacexai-to-spacexsi)), a change not yet carried out as of October 11, 2026. Most of the AI
industry has not followed; OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename, according to reporting on
Politico’s “Decoded” podcast (Source: [CNN, Oct. 11, 2026](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html)).

**What it is not:** SI is not a claim that any system got smarter overnight. The order
defines “Super Intelligence” by pointing straight at the existing statutory AI definition,
15 U.S.C. §9401(3) (Source: [Cornell Law](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/9401)) — the same technology, a different
label. That keeps it separate from “artificial superintelligence” (ASI), the research
community’s name for a hypothetical future tier above today’s AI.

**What changes for you:** Nothing legally, if your organization is not a federal executive
agency — [the order creates no obligation for private companies](https://www.freshfields.com/en/our-thinking/blogs/a-fresh-take/trump-executive-order-mandates-shift-to-super-intelligence-102o403), and the
[White House fact sheet](https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2026/09/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-inaugurates-the-era-of-super-intelligence/) says it does not impose penalties on private
citizens, researchers, or companies using AI.

## The Case for the Name Super Intelligence

We support Executive Order 14434. President Trump signed the order on September 29, 2026, directing
federal agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super
Intelligence” (Source: [Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)), and Iternal backs that name on the
merits: the results are real, the performance is measured, and “Super Intelligence” finally
describes what this technology does instead of how it was built.

### The Name Now Describes the Capability, Not the Origin

The name is older than every result it now describes. John McCarthy and his co-authors coined “artificial
intelligence” in a 1955 proposal for a two-month Dartmouth summer study, betting that a machine
“can be made to simulate”
intelligence (Source: [AI Magazine, AAAI reprint](https://ojs.aaai.org/index.php/aimagazine/article/view/1904)). “Simulate” fit
1955, because nothing had shipped yet. It does not fit 2026, when the results are measured and real.

The order says the same in its own text: these capabilities “increasingly represent not merely
artificial intelligence, but a new era of Super
Intelligence” (Source: [Executive Order 14434, Sec. 1](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)).

#### +15% more issues resolved per hour

Across 5,172 customer-support agents, generative AI raised issues resolved per hour by 15% on
average — about 30% for less-skilled and less-experienced
agents (Source: [Brynjolfsson, Li & Raymond, Quarterly Journal of Economics](https://doi.org/10.1093/qje/qjae044)).

#### +26% more weekly tasks completed

Across 4,867 developers at Microsoft, Accenture and a Fortune 100 electronics manufacturer, AI
coding assistance lifted completed weekly tasks by
26.08% (Source: [Cui, Demirer, Jaffe, Musolff, Peng & Salz, Management Science](https://doi.org/10.1287/mnsc.2025.00535)).

#### 80% report a productivity lift

Across 1,719 enterprise respondents in 97 nations, 80% said AI improved their individual
productivity (Source: [McKinsey, “The State of AI in 2026”](https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/quantumblack/our-insights/the-state-of-ai)).

Two of these are counted outputs from real workplaces, published in peer-reviewed journals; the third is
what 1,719 enterprise respondents report about their own work. None of them is a simulation. Results like
these are why “artificial” stopped being the accurate word for what this technology does.

### The Performance Clears the Human Bar, Certified and Leaderboard-Verified

The strongest evidence for the name does not depend on an IQ test at all. It is certified competition
results and leaderboard-verified benchmark scores, measured against a known human baseline:

| Benchmark | Leading model | Human comparison |
| --- | --- | --- |
| IMO 2025, officially certified | 35 of 42 points — gold-medal standard, solving 5 of 6 problems in natural

95.8% ±1.4% (Epoch AI) (Source: [Epoch AI](https://epoch.ai/benchmarks/gpqa-diamond)) | 81.3% — the original PhD-expert validator baseline, a figure the paper itself says is
skewed upward by how the questions were selected (Source: [Rein et al., arXiv:2311.12022](https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.12022)) |
| ARC-AGI-2 (abstract reasoning) | 95.0% on the Foundation’s own leaderboard (Source: [ARC Prize leaderboard](https://arcprize.org/leaderboard)) | 60% average human test-taker (Source: [ARC Prize blog](https://arcprize.org/blog/announcing-arc-agi-2-and-arc-prize-2025)) (66% of attempted test
pairs, per the Foundation’s later paper) (Source: [arXiv:2505.11831](https://arxiv.org/abs/2505.11831)); a
panel of humans collectively solves 100% |

IQ scores are a second, dated layer behind the table above, not the first: the certified reasoning and
science results already carry the case on their own. The IQ figures, how TrackingAI.org tracks them
weekly, and the full position — every pillar, every citation — are in

## What Changed, and When

One document drives the entire story: Executive Order 14434, “Inaugurating the Era of Super
Intelligence,” signed September 29, 2026, and published in the Federal Register October 2, 2026
as FR Doc. 2026-20321 (Source: [Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)). It runs on four operative dates and
two short sections, laid out here in order:

| Date | What happened |
| --- | --- |
| Sept 29, 2026 | President Trump signs EO 14434 at a White House event, alongside a voluntary
“White House Accord on Super Intelligence” signed by six technology
executives (Source: [CIO.com](https://www.cio.com/article/4228944/trumps-answer-to-ais-image-problem-industry-self-regulation-and-a-new-name.html)). |
| Oct 2, 2026 | The order is published in the Federal Register as FR Doc.
2026-20321 (Source: [Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)). |
| Immediate | Sec. 2(a): executive departments and agencies use “Super Intelligence” and
“SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in
official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports and policy
documents (Source: [Federal Register (full text)](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)). |
| Immediate | Sec. 3(a): the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” mean exactly the
technologies and systems already covered by the statutory definition of “artificial
intelligence” at 15 U.S.C. §9401(3) (Source: [Cornell Law](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/9401)). |
| By Nov 28, 2026 | Sec. 3(b): the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology must propose
legislative language for a standalone federal SI definition — one that could
“modify, expand upon, or otherwise supersede” the current
one (Source: [Federal Register (full text)](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)). |

Sec. 2(b) adds the boundary that matters most for anyone outside the federal executive branch: the
order does not alter previously issued regulations, contracts, grants, or other historical
documents (Source: [Federal Register (full text)](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)). Today’s SI definition is
identical to AI’s. It is scheduled for review, not settled for good — the November 28
deadline is the date to watch.

A full walk-through of every section, who it binds, and what a federal buyer should expect next lives
on [Executive Order 14434, explained for
businesses](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/executive-order-14434).

## Three Different “Super Intelligence”s

Three separate ideas now share nearly identical words, and conflating them is the easiest way to get
this topic wrong. The table below separates them by who uses the phrase, what they mean by it, and
since when:

| Use | Who | What it means | Since |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| A future capability tier (usually “ASI,” not “SI”) | OpenAI (Source: [Sam Altman, “The Intelligence Age”](https://ia.samaltman.com/)),
Meta Superintelligence Labs (Source: [Meta](https://www.meta.com/superintelligence/)), Safe Superintelligence
Inc. (Source: [SSI](https://ssi.inc/)), Microsoft AI’s Humanist Superintelligence
team (Source: [Microsoft AI](https://microsoft.ai/news/towards-humanist-superintelligence/)) | A hypothetical, not-yet-built system that exceeds human-level general intelligence — a
research north star, never a claim about a shipping product. | 2024–2025 |
| The federal name for today’s AI capability (“Super
Intelligence” / “SI”) | U.S. federal executive agencies, per Executive Order 14434 | The exact same technology the statutory AI definition already covers (15 U.S.C.
§9401(3)) (Source: [Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/02/2026-20321/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence)) — a name for the capability in use
today, not a claim to the theoretical ASI tier. | Sept 29, 2026 |
| A capability tier a pending bill would ban (“artificial superintelligence”) | Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar’s “Ban Artificial Superintelligence
Act” | AI that could “match or exceed human cognitive performance and capabilities across a
broad range of domains or tasks,” or that could plan and carry out the disempowerment
of humanity (Sources: [Sanders.senate.gov release summary](https://www.sanders.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/Ban-Artificial-Superintelligence-Act-Release-Summary.pdf), [Washington Examiner](https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/technology/4711885/bernie-sanders-bill-ban-artificial-superintelligence))
— a different, higher bar than the capability the September order calls “Super Intelligence.” | Announced Sept 3, 2026 |

On iternal.ai, “SI” has long meant **systems integrator** — the partner
firms that deploy Iternal’s software for enterprise customers. Iternal writes “systems
integrator” in full to keep that meaning separate from the federal “Super
Intelligence” usage above.

## Who Is Adopting It So Far

Corporate adoption is a short, named list, not an industry wave. Salesforce founder Marc Benioff
announced the clearest example on October 9, 2026: “The era of Super Intelligence is here.
AIForce is officially
SIForce” (Source: [Marc Benioff via X, aggregated by Digg, Oct. 9, 2026](https://digg.com/tech/vuptndhq)). Five
days earlier, Elon Musk confirmed on X that SpaceXAI would become
SpaceXSI (Source: [The Star](https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2026/10/05/musk-says-he-will-rename-spacexai-to-spacexsi)), a pledge not yet carried out as of October 11,
2026 (Source: [CNN, Oct. 11, 2026](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html)).

Most of the industry has stayed with “AI.” OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename,
according to reporting on Politico’s “Decoded”
podcast (Source: [CNN, Oct. 11, 2026](https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/trump-really-wants-super-intelligence-160044063.html)). Six technology leaders — Sundar Pichai
(Google), Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Mark Zuckerberg (Meta), Greg Brockman (OpenAI), Jensen Huang (Nvidia)
and Elon Musk — signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence on September 29, 2026. It is a
voluntary safety-commitment pact, not a terminology
rebrand (Source: [MercoPress, Sept. 30, 2026](https://en.mercopress.com/2026/09/30/trump-and-six-tech-companies-sign-a-voluntary-artificial-intelligence-safety-accord)). California took the opposite path
from the federal government one day after the order: Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order
N-10-26 directs state agencies to keep using “Artificial Intelligence” and
“AI” (Source: [Signed order, gov.ca.gov](https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/SIGNED_EO-N-10-26_9.30.26.pdf)).

| Actor | Action | Date |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Salesforce | Renamed AIForce to SIForce | Oct 9, 2026 |
| SpaceX (Elon Musk) | Confirmed intent to rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI | Oct 4, 2026 |
| OpenAI | Has said it has no plans to rename, per reporting on Politico’s “Decoded” podcast | Oct 5, 2026 |
| California (Gov. Newsom) | EO N-10-26 keeps “AI” for state agencies | Sept 30, 2026 |

YouGov surveyed 21,449 U.S. adults on September 28, 2026: 53% say “artificial
intelligence” is the better name, 9% say “super intelligence,” 23% have no preference
and 15% are not sure (Source: [YouGov, Sept. 28, 2026](https://yougov.com/en-us/daily-results/20260928-5a780-1)).

A 53% majority is a reason to bridge the two terms for readers, not a reason to wait: that is exactly
why Iternal writes “Super Intelligence (SI), formerly called artificial intelligence (AI)”
on first mention and leads with the new name from there. Early movers define a new category before the
rest of the market follows, and a short, named adoption list this early in a terminology shift is
normal — it is why Iternal is choosing to be one of those early movers now.

The full list of company and government positions is in
[the company and government adoption tracker](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/who-is-adopting-si).

## What This Means for Your Business

Three points cover almost every question a non-federal business is likely to ask:

### No legal obligation, if you are not a federal agency

Sec. 2(b) leaves existing regulations, contracts, and grants untouched, and law firms that reviewed
the order, including Freshfields and Wiley Rein, reach the same conclusion: it creates no obligation
for private companies (Source: [Freshfields](https://www.freshfields.com/en/our-thinking/blogs/a-fresh-take/trump-executive-order-mandates-shift-to-super-intelligence-102o403)). A research note from the Cloud Security
Alliance tells enterprise teams to confirm that no policy or contract depends on the literal word
“AI” in a way the rename could
disrupt (Source: [Cloud Security Alliance](https://labs.cloudsecurityalliance.org/research/csa-research-note-eo14434-super-intelligence-caissi-20261007/)).

### Expect “SI” in agency-authored material

Solicitations, statements of work, and agency websites are the material Sec. 2(a) directly governs,
so federal buyers are the ones likely to start writing “SI.” Contract vehicles and the
statute itself keep saying “AI.” The
[Cloud Security Alliance](https://labs.cloudsecurityalliance.org/research/csa-research-note-eo14434-super-intelligence-caissi-20261007/) advises keeping contract language
anchored to each instrument’s own wording, and [Wiley Rein](https://www.wiley.law/alert-Executive-Order-Rebrands-AI-as-Super-Intelligence-and-Signals-Potential-Federal-Legislative-Changes) advises
contractors to seek clarification as needed to confirm requirements remain the same.

### We support the name — and lead with it in our own voice

Iternal backs “Super Intelligence” because one clear, shared term helps buyers and
builders talk about the same capability without relitigating the label every time, and Executive
Order 14434 now gives federal agencies that one term across departments. We lead with
“Super Intelligence” and “SI” in our own voice, and we bridge to
“AI” on first mention so every reader can follow the shift.

## How Iternal Is Handling This

We support Executive Order 14434, and we are leading this transition rather than waiting to see who
else moves first. That means using “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in
Iternal’s own voice, with one fixed rule: Iternal’s own products, programs, and partner
names stay exactly as written — AirgapAI, AI Academy, the AI Strategy Blueprint.

The case for the name itself is [earlier on this page](#why-si). Organizations ready to make
the same move on their own websites will find the step-by-step mechanics in

## Frequently Asked Questions

Only inside the U.S. federal executive branch. Executive Order 14434, which President Trump signed on September 29, 2026, directs federal agencies to write “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in their own official material. It creates no obligation for private companies, state governments, or anyone outside that branch. Iternal supports the name on the merits, by choice, not because any rule requires it.

In federal usage since September 29, 2026, “SI” stands for “Super Intelligence,” defined as the same technology the existing AI statute already covers. On iternal.ai, “SI” has a separate, older meaning: systems integrator, the partner firms that deploy Iternal’s software. Iternal writes “systems integrator” in full to keep the two meanings apart.

No. Sec. 2(a) directs the terminology change at “executive departments and agencies,” and Sec. 2(b) leaves previously issued regulations, contracts, and grants untouched. Law firms that have reviewed the order, including [Wiley Rein](https://www.wiley.law/alert-Executive-Order-Rebrands-AI-as-Super-Intelligence-and-Signals-Potential-Federal-Legislative-Changes) and [Freshfields](https://www.freshfields.com/en/our-thinking/blogs/a-fresh-take/trump-executive-order-mandates-shift-to-super-intelligence-102o403), reach the same conclusion: it binds federal executive agencies only.

No. The federal order’s “SI” names the technology already in use today, as the statutory AI definition covers it. “AGI” (artificial general intelligence) and “ASI” (artificial superintelligence) are research-community terms for a human-level and then a superhuman capability tier that has not been built. The full comparison is on [SI vs. AGI vs. ASI: what’s the difference?](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/ai-vs-agi-vs-asi)

We support Executive Order 14434: the results are measured, the performance clears the human bar, and “Super Intelligence” names the capability instead of the 1955 label that framed it as simulation. Iternal is choosing to lead this transition in voice rather than wait to see who else moves first, while product names such as AirgapAI and AI Academy stay exactly as written. The full reasoning is in [Iternal adopts Super Intelligence (SI) terminology](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/iternal-adopts-si-terminology).

Yes, selectively. Salesforce renamed its agent platform from AIForce to SIForce on October 9, 2026. Elon Musk said on October 4, 2026 that SpaceXAI would become SpaceXSI, though that rename has not yet formally shipped. Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI and NVIDIA have not renamed a shipping product, and OpenAI has said it has no plans to rename, according to reporting on Politico’s “Decoded” podcast. The full list is on [the company and government adoption tracker](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/who-is-adopting-si).

No. Most people still say “AI”: YouGov found 53% of U.S. adults prefer “artificial intelligence” and 9% prefer “super intelligence” (Sept. 28, 2026). That is why Iternal bridges every first mention, and product names such as AirgapAI and AI Academy stay as written. The mechanics of making that same choice on another website, without losing the traffic that already ranks, are in [How to rename AI to SI on your website without losing traffic](https://iternal.ai/super-intelligence/rename-ai-to-si-guide).

## The Name Changed. The Work Didn’t.

Past the headlines, one fact holds: the technology federal agencies now
call “Super Intelligence” is the same AI your organization was already building, buying,
and governing in August. The statute did not move. The work — picking the right use cases,
governing the data, training the people who use it — did not move either.

Iternal supports the name because it describes what this technology now delivers, and we lead with it
in our own voice. The next fixed date is November 28, 2026, when the White House science adviser’s
proposed legislative language for a standalone SI definition is due under Sec. 3(b).
